Frequently Asked Questions
This is divided into different sections based on which roles are available.
GeneralQ. Are any of the positions paid?
A. Unfortunately, No. Because the concert is non-commercial and I’m just one person funding the whole thing myself, I am unable to offer financial compensation at this time. Rest assured, I will also never profit off of your hard work either.
The only time payment will be involved is on the rare occasion a 2D artist’s work is used for merchandise. However, this will only happen after thorough discussions before hand with the artist so an agreement can be made.
Q. Will there be hard deadlines for things to be finished?
A. This varies a bit based on which role you’re filling.
- Dancers won’t have a specific deadline. Because motions take a long time to be completed, we use them as they are finished and do not create concrete plans based on them. However, if a long time has passed since I’ve heard from you (aka several months) I may check in to make sure you’re still interested.
- 2D Artist and Vocal Synth Users will have specific deadlines. This is because their work will, in most cases, be tied to specific events / songs. However, I am not trying to make anyone work on crunch-time. All deadlines will be discussed up front and I’ll try to give at least a few months of advance notice.
Q. How will we be credited for our work?
A. Any and all contributions to the concerts are included in the credits at the end of the show as well as in the description of full show recordings. If you are contributing in a way that doesn’t show up in the show (such as promotional art), you will instead be credited in the description of any posts including your work.
2D ArtistsQ. What will I be contributing to the concert as a 2D artist?
A. 2D artists will be contributing in a handful of different ways, including but not limited to:
- Drawing art to be used during the concert, such as character cut-ins or background images
- Drawing art to be used for promotional posts before events, such as concert announcements
- Creating designs of characters to be made into 3D models and used during concerts.
What you contribute will be determined by what you’re interested in, what your skill set is, and what time you have available.
Q. Will I be able to post the art I make for the concert on my own social media accounts?
A. Yes! I would only ask that you wait to post them after the show they’re attached to has finished.
DancersQ. What will dancers be doing to contribute to the concert?
A. Dancers will be helping us expand our catalogue of songs available in concerts. We can only use songs available as MMD motions at this time, but with your help we can include new songs as well as songs for less popular vocaloids. Dancers will contribute directly in one of two ways:
- Learning and recording themselves dancing to existing Choreography, either from online creators (such as Odorites or YouTube videos) or official sources like official concerts or project diva / sekai
- creating and recording original choreography
Q. As a dancer, will I have to travel to a studio? What’s required of me besides dancing?
A. Because there are no Motion Capture studios within a reasonable distance of our home base, we will not be using standard motion capture for this. For that reason, you do not need to travel in order to participate. You just need to be able to record yourself and have a good space to dance in.
Q. If you don’t use a motion capture studio, how do you create the motions from our videos?
A. I use a program that can take a video frame by frame and estimate what pose the person in the video is in. It then strings these poses together into a 3D animation format. This software is similar to video editing software that tracks movement or auto detects shapes to cut out for green screening. I then have to go in and manually modify / clean these motions, add facial expressions and create finger movements. This all takes a lot of time on my end, which is why there’s no rush on these new motions.
Q. How is it decided what songs we’ll be learning dances for?
A. It’s important to me that anyone contributing to this project gets to work on songs they actually like. I’ll ask you to make a list of songs you’d like to learn or already know, along with where their choreo comes from (ex. A specific video you'd learn it from, an official source, your own original choreo etc). We’ll then narrow that list down together, eliminating songs that may not be the right fit or already have MMD motions available. If you end up struggling with a song on the list after trying to learn it, you can let me know and begin trying something else on the list instead.
Q. Do I need professional training to be a dancer for this?
A. No. You will need to provide examples of your dancing experience, but I am not expecting professionals or trained dancers. Experience can range from convention performances, YouTube dance covers, or even tiktok dances.
Vocal Synth UsersQ. How will I be contributing as a Vocal Synth User?
A. The main contribution towards the concert will be one of two things:
- Creation of specific covers, either solos, duets, or group finale songs
- Creation of Talkloids on rarer occasions
You will not be asked to make a talkloid if you do not feel comfortable doing so, and you will not be asked to use a vocal synth you do not own or are uncomfortable using.
Q. Do I get to pick what songs I make covers for?
A. Yes and no. Most likely, i’ll be contacting you to fill a specific spot. For example, maybe I need another Gackpo song for the concert. From there, we’d work together to decide what that cover will be based on the available MMD motions and the other songs already planned in the setlist. I will never make you to cover a song you don’t like or aren’t interested in.
Q. Can I post the covers I make for the concert on my own account?
A. Yes! All I ask is that you wait until after at least one show that includes that cover. So if you make a cover that’s used at Yama Con 2026, I would ask you to wait until after the convention to post the cover online. Wips and previews before the show are totally fine.
Q. I only know how to tune, I don’t know how to mix. (Or vice versa) Is that okay? Can you find someone to help me, or can you do it?
A. Unfortunately I do not have skills in either category, and I do not have someone I can call on to do so. You will need to either have the ability to do both, or apply knowing you have someone who can help you on your end- either a partner or a friend.
Q. I tune by blending SynthV voice banks with Vocaloid Voicebanks to get a more realistic sound. Is that ok?
A. No. I don’t mind if you blend different Vocaloid voice banks with each other, but I do not wish to support the cross blending of SynthV with Vocaloid banks with my concerts.
